Charles Wood produces and directs dance videos, and over the last 40 years has met some amazing people in the process. His interest in Caribbean and African dance started around 16 years old from collecting reggae music. Moving to London bought him into contact with Jamaicans in the 70’s and he lit many productions of Carl Campbell DC 7, along with anti-apartite work in theatre and music, managing the MASS project theatres in Brixton. Visiting Lagos in 1976 made him long standing friends who have re-appeared in the UK since. Papa Noel (from The Congo, pictured left) amongst them. This was filmed while working with Cotó and Rey Crespo of Cuba.

In 1994 a chance agreement allowed Charles to go to Cuba, armed with the latest camera and lighting gear. Little came of that first trip artistically so Kerry Ribchester and he pooled experience and resources to return the following year and shoot “Salsa from Within Cuba” a huge stimulant to the Cuban dancing scene in London and the UK. Working with Tumi Music, Felix Baloy and Alex Wilson has produced many interesting projects since then. Some of that work is available on DVD.

Television standards information

Where do you live?: You are probably aware that different parts of the world use different television standards.

Most of Europe like the United Kingdom, Italy and Germany, use PAL. The United States, Japan, Cuba and many Latin American countries use NTSC.

We now ONLY sell PAL DVDs ( DVD region 0, worldwide) but you can play these on your computer system whatever part of the world you live in.
there are two exceptions to this: The Felix Baloy DVD has two DVDs in the same package, one for PAL, one for NTSC.
The "Salsa from Within Cuba" DVD is available in PAL and NTSC, please email us if you want the NTSC version (if the order is clearly from the USA we will normally ask you by email!).
Some DVD players will play all the standards, if in doubt buy a European quality player such as Panasonic...they will usually play both standards Ok...or can be modified to.

Just to make our position clear: If you paid for it, we want you to play it wherever you live!

We found the cheapest pro-line player we bought in Comet in the Uk played everything...without a problem...for £19.00!!

Most European players will play American DVDs but for some reason, better understood by American authorities, and
the rest of the world call this a trade barrier, American's are not allowed to view our PAL products, rather an odd position for a champion of free trade!!.
